History and Notes on My Yamaha XS400SH
Welcome to the history and repairs section of my web site.
I bought this little jewel of a bike about a year ago, I spotted it sitting outside a
local pawn shop with an $800 price tag attached to it. I knew I couldn't pay that kind of
price for this bike, but I looked it over anyway, and really decided
that I wanted it! I happen to know the owner of this pawn shop pretty good, he was the
organist at a church that I had attended regularly for several years.
I went in to talk to him about cutting the price on the bike, and after
some fancy talking (practically begging), I walked out of there as the
proud owner of the bike! It wound up costing me $600 plus tax. I really haven't had to
do much in the way of repairs on this bike thus far, it has proven to be very reliable.
I did however, order a new chain for it today, as the existing chain has developed a lot
of slack, to a point where I'm not sure that I really want to trust it
on the highway right now. The chain should be in sometime next week.
